I have always been fascinated with architects who can take already made products and turn them into the coolest structures. Sustainability at its finest is taking a product at face value and seeing the potential in it. I value the creativity these designers hold. My goal is to one day be able to reach out to communities who are limited financial and give them a space to live in that is amazingly designed by using the most common, everyday products. Everyone deserves to live in a well designed and constructed space/structure. Architects are not reserved for the wealthy or for commercial use. No, an Architect is to serve the people through their designs....Architects are to design the perfect flow of uses.......to create a feeling of security and comfort within a design. Who says that is for only a select group of people?
These homes and dormitories are constructed out of shipping containers. They clearly illustrate how a product can be morphed to serve various uses and have varying levels of "quality" to them. The geometric quality of the containers allow for more flexibly designs. These containers add a whole other quality and texture to the design, making it much more dynamic. I personally am in love with these designs. The architects are taking the term "green" or "sustainability" to a whole other level. Not only are they reusing the shipping containers but they are actually insulating them and adding other amazing feature to the homes to make them a complete and comprehensive "green" homes.
For example, the home to the right has a minimal impact on the surround environment. "This container house has been designed to lower the impact of the environment. It has an electric winch which is used to move the heavy deck door and it uses solar energy for the purpose. The floor of the Ecopod is made of recycled car tires and there is birch paneling in the walls. It can be used as an independent unit and also with others structures." The diversity among these shipping containers is wonderful as well because you can individually customize your container to fit your needs and wants. There for a generic product quickly becomes your "own". Check out more on these amazing designs! http://www.designbuzz.com/entry/10-recycled-houses-shipping-containers/
